#SHS: Skincare Haul Sunday!

Hello Skindeepies!

I am very excited to be doing my first... SKINCARE HAUL SUNDAY post a.k.a #SHS!!!

I ran out on some of my skincare products and I thought, why not take this opportunity to try out current famous skincare brands in the market. So read on to find out what products I have bought recently!

I watched plenty of Youtube videos by skincare specialists and one of the products that they often mention and recommend to include in our skincare routine is an Exfoliant. So, of course, I had to buy the Paula's Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliator!

This brand and particularly this exfoliant has been on most Youtubers and beauty bloggers' skincare routine and I was curious! You know, I used to think that exfoliators are face scrubs that you use 2/3 times a week to remove dead skin cells. Well, I am not entirely wrong about that, but it just turns out I haven't discovered Chemical Exfoliants at that point of time. So yes, unlike physical exfoliants a.k.a face scrubs, chemical exfoliants do not involve rubbing the skin and can penetrate the skin for a deeper exfoliation. So not only are they effective, they are gentle and helps to prevent micro-tears on the skin.

So Paula's Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliator is suitable for ALL skin types. As shown on the product, it is supposed to help unclogged pores, smoothen wrinkles, brighten, and helps to even out skin tone. The main ingredient is the Beta Hydroxy Acid(BHA), specifically the Salicylic Acid. This acid is the agent that helps to shed extra layers of dead skin cells. Unlike the Alpha Hydroxy Acid(AHA), it penetrates your pores deeper to better unclog them. Please ensure that you are aware of your current skin type and do enough research on which acid is suitable for you. In my case, I am currently experiencing large pores, breakouts and uneven skin tone on my face so, BHA seems to fit into this chart. Click here for the video(shoutout to my best friend Rai, for this video!) I watched to learn more about AHA & BHA, and how it benefited me in choosing the right product for my skin.

According to the instructions, this product can be used every morning and night. But as it is new to me and to allow my skin to slowly familiarise itself with the product, I have decided to apply it only at night. ALWAYS read the instructions on the application; the brand knows best on how much product should be applied. It's my third night using this product and so far there are some improvements. I realised that my skin turns out glossy and less oily in the morning. I am loving it so far! This exfoliator is similar to a toner consistency and is best to be applied on a cotton pad. However, the smell reminds me of nail polish remover but it is not as intense. So, some of you might not enjoy it or find it pleasant. To apply, you just have to gently wipe using a cotton pad, avoiding your eyelids and lash line. No stinging sensation or negative reaction to my skin so that is a sign that this product is working well on my skin.

I bought this from Shopee(Click here) for S$15 in 30ml. Yes, small bottle because like I have mentioned, its new to me, so I want to make sure that it suits my skin and that I am not wasting by purchasing the bigger bottle. You can purchase it directly from the website (Click here), and is available in 2 sizes; 30ml(S$15) and 118ml(S$45).

Can't wait to see the results in a few weeks/months. So stay tuned!

The Ordinary has been one of the brands that are super famous in the market right now with a HUGE amount of good reviews and of course, I had to get one. But what exactly? I decided to buy their Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% Serum!

This serum is supposed to treat blemishes, large pores, oily skin and acne; all that I am currently experiencing. So if it's not obvious, their main ingredients are Niacinimide and Zinc.

Niacinimide a.k.a Vitamin B3 is an agent to combat redness, wrinkles and hyperpigmentation. It's a great ingredient that is suitable for, I think safe to say, ALL skin types.

Zinc, on the other hand, is especially beneficial for acne, to reduce inflammation and scarring.

Please make sure you know what ingredients are in your skincare products. If you have the same agent/ingredient in some products, you might want to avoid using them at the same time as it will only increase the dosage and might be too strong or harsh for your skin.

This product is lightweight, comes as a clear liquid and is fragrance-free! The instructions state that you can apply this during the day & night but I have decided to include it only in my day routine and use my Fresh Vitamin Nectar Serum at night. I have been using it for 2 days so it's still too early to see results. But I do feel that my face is less oily at the end of the day so that is a good sign.

I bought this from Shopee(Click here) for S$12.50 in 30ml. I believe they don't sell this in any of the department stores. You can get it from their website(Click here) directly and it comes in 2 sizes; 30ml(USD$7) and 60ml(USD$13).

Sunscreen is probably a step that I took lightly and find no importance in using unless I am planning to go to the beach. So I did some research on my own to find out the types of sunscreens and how each one of them helps different skin types. Click here to see one of the videos that I came across that I think will help those of you who are new to this as well! With this, I have decided to purchase La Roche-Posay's Anthelios Shaka Tinted SPF50+.

This brand is always deemed as one of the top brands for mineral sunscreens so I am excited to try! I had the Supergoop Matte Sunscreen before this and is just as great; would definitely purchase it again. But I want to allow myself to try different brands of sunscreens so I can compare them and find the most suitable one for my skin.

La Roche-Posay's Anthelios Shaka Tinted SPF50+ is a broad-spectrum sunscreen which means it acts to protect our skin from both the UVA & UVB rays. Some factors that I look for in sunscreens are, it has to be lightweight and water-resistant; just like this one. The Anthelios sunscreen has a watery/liquid texture and the unique thing about it is it is tinted, close to a pink-ish/nude-ish tone. The tint will not cover any blemishes but is supposed to give you that nice glow and I like it! As it is tinted, my skin remained the same colour with no hint of white streaks. It smells nice and absorbs well on my skin. However, when I first applied it, it does have a super quick stinging sensation which lasted for about 3 seconds, so I tried to wait for a few hours to see if there is any negative reaction but thankfully, there was none. I've been using it for 2 days now and so far my skin is fine so that is a good sign!

You can find this at any department stores such as Watsons and Guardian. I bought this for S$48.90 in 50ml(Click here).

So that sums up my skincare haul! Just to share a few tips that I learned when choosing a new product for my skin:

  1. Ensure you know your skin type.

  2. Read the ingredients that are in the product.

  3. Always read the reviews and do some research on the product.

  4. Always read the instructions on how to apply and how much product should be applied to your skin.

  5. Always give your skin some time to get used to the product. You can decrease the dosage but NEVER increase.

Can't wait to see the results of these products on my skin and to share them with you the next time!

Till the next one!
