Hello everybody!
This time around, I would like to share with you guys my current skincare routine. Now you wonder, why current? That's because I like to keep my options open when it comes to skincare products. We know that there are tons of skincare products to treat different skin types and problems, be it acne, uneven tone skin etc. Personally, I feel that it's important to try on a new/different brand once in a while. This allows us to compare and find the most suitable one for our skin. But if you have a product that you have been using for years and is very effective on you, then that's great; saves you the hassle of buying and trying on a new product. Also, our skin problems tend to change over the months/years in response to our hormones, for example, one month you may have flawless skin and the next you have acne breakouts. I too have suffered from this; caused by fatigue, stress, pre-period symptoms, you name it. Hence, the word 'current'. So go on and read about my routine!
Let's get started!
Take note: I'll leave the links to each of the products at the end of my post if you wish to purchase them.
Step 1: Facial Cleanser - Soy Face Cleanser by Fresh (Click here to find out more about Fresh)
Love love love this cleanser by Fresh! It is whatever it says on it; for ALL skin types, cleanses face & eyes. It's very hard to find a facial cleanser that allows you to wash your eyes, as you know, the eye area is very delicate and sensitive. Also, this cleanser removes make-up. So not all facial cleansers are multifunctional as this. Personally, I don't see the need to use this as a make-up remover so I'm not sure how great it is at removing a full face make-up. But it's a good factor if you don't wish to spend more on make-up removers.
Top ingredients:
Amino acid soy protein - To maintain skin elasticity
Cucumber extract - To soothe the skin
Rosewater - For its calming and balancing properties
It has a gel-like consistency and not too runny for me to apply it on my skin. I have been using this for my day & night routine for about 2 years. How I came across this product was when I received the sample sized bottle as my birthday gift from Sephora. So I tried, my skin felt great, and have been using it since. I hate facial cleansers that leave my skin feeling dry and tight, and this product does none of that and I love it! It also has a subtle smell of cucumber which is nice! You can find it at any Fresh or Sephora stores and it comes in 3 sizes(Price varies for each size) - 50ml(S$23), 150ml(S$63) & 400ml(S$113). The one I'm using is 150ml and it can last me up to 2.5 months.
Step 2: Toner - Vinopure Clear Skin Purifying Toner by Caudalie
(Click here to know more about Caudalie)
I feel that toner is one of the most important and overlooked steps in a skincare routine. You may deem it as unnecessary, but you might be wrong.
What is a toner exactly? From my understanding, toner acts as a liquid that helps to remove dead cells, help close pores, and tighten cell gaps after cleansing which reduce the risk of getting environmental impurities from penetrating your skin. I read an article that mention toner also helps in the process of better absorbing your other skincare products. They actually used the sponge analogy; so imagine your skin as a dry sponge while water is the toner. When you wet a sponge, it makes it easier to absorb soap/detergent to wash your dishes, and this is impossible to achieve with a dry sponge; so how does this analogy apply to toning your skin? Skin that is prepped with toner will allow other products like serums or moisturiser to absorb better.
Caudalie's Vinopure Clear Skin Purifying Toner works best with oily-combination skin or those experiencing hormonal breakouts, as it specifically helps to control oil and prevent breakouts on your skin. I have oily & dry skin; oily on my T-zone and slightly dry on other areas of my face so this product works well on me. Been using this for a few months now and I don't think I'm changing my toner any time soon. It comes as a clear watery liquid and I always apply it using a gentle cotton pad. The smell is 100% natural, extracted from the essential oils in the product.
Top ingredients:
Salicylic acid - Decrease inflammation and breakouts
Grape-seed polyphenols - Improves skin appearance
Essential oils
You can get it at Sephora for S$35 in 200ml only. A bottle can last me up to more than 2 months.
Step 3: Serum - Vitamin Nectar Glow Juice Antioxidant Face Serum by Fresh
Serum is something new to me that I have recently incorporated in my skincare routine. There are a few types of serums that can replace your moisturiser because they have quite similar treating agents. If you are wondering, what is a serum, basically, they have high concentrations of specific ingredients to treat specific problems, for example, anti-ageing or hydrating.
In my case, I was advised by my esthetician recently to get a brightening serum to combat the hyperpigmentation around my mouth. So I tried to find it online and The Vitamin Nectar Glow Juice Antioxidant Face Serum by Fresh was recommended to me. Yes, I know, another Fresh product(hehe). I was already using their cleanser and lip balm so I had no doubts that this product will produce positive results like the rest.
Top ingredients:
Vitamins C, E & B5 from lemon and orange extract - To help revitalize dull skin
Coconut oil - To help nourish and soften skin
Ginger water - To help hydrate skin
This serum comes in a liquid form. The colour and scent will remind you of orange juice! It is still new to me, so I only see a little improvement in my skin tone. You can find it at any Fresh or Sephora stores and it comes in 2 packaging - 1 bottle for S$45 in 15ml and 3-bottle Value Pack for S$115 in 45ml.
Step 4: Eye Serum - Collagen Eye Serum by PIXI Beauty
(Click here to know more about PIXI Beauty)
Same benefits as a normal serum but this specifically helps to hydrate and brighten the eye area. The eye area seems to be the only one that we tend to neglect. As someone who enjoys putting on make-up, I feel that it is important to take care of my delicate skin around the eye to ensure its surface is always clean and that it is treated the same as other areas of my face; I wouldn't want my eyeshadow to look like it's been applied on a rocky surface. Eye bags and dark circles are nothing new to me, and I always have a hard time finding the right one to tackle these problems. I have to be honest with you, this eye serum does not do any magic for my dark circles but I insist to continue using it because it does help to hydrate my skin and, it'll be a waste to throw away(haha). Of course, it might work on different skin types but just not mine.
Top ingredients:
Acacia collagen - Helps to boost the elasticity of the skin
Hyaluronic Acid - Helps to firm and hydrate skin
The Collagen Eye Serum by PIXI Beauty comes as a clear liquid gel, easily absorbed on the skin and it doesn't really have a scent. I always apply any eye cream, gel or serum using my weakest finger - The ring finger. It is best to dab a bit of the product around the eye are. A little goes a long way!
You can get this at Sephora too for S$41 in 25ml.
Step 5: Moisturizer - Moisture Surge 72-Hour Auto-Replenishing Hydrator by Clinique
(Click here to know more about Clinique)
My favourite moisturiser so far! Just like any ordinary moisturiser. What I love about Clinique's Moisture Surge is that it does not leave my skin feeling greasy and sticky after applying. The product is lightweight as well and you need not apply a huge amount on your skin. It appears as pastel pink/peach but when you scoop it out, it looks close to clear gel-cream texture. It doesn't have much of a scent to it and I love that!
Top ingredients:
Hyaluronic acid - Hydrates skin
Emollients - Sooth and hydrates skin
I have been using this moisturizer for months and I love how my skin is less oily and greasy at the end of the day, and this doesn't usually happen with my previous moisturisers. So it works well on my skin and will definitely purchase it again. You can get it at any Sephora or Department Store such as Robinsons or Metro. The moisturiser comes in 3 sizes - 15ml(S$19), 30ml(S$47), 50ml(S$77). I'm currently using the 30ml tub and it can last me up to 2 months.
Step 6: Lip Balm - Pro Kiss'R Luscious Lip Balm by Fenty Beauty
(Click here to know more about Fenty Beauty by Rihanna)
When your favourite celebrity launches her make-up line, YOU BUY HER PRODUCTS #navy4life.
Rihanna did not come to play when it comes to make-up and this lip balm can prove it.
Lip balm is another step that we usually neglect or overlook. Personally, I feel that our lips, just like our skin, deserves some love too! Not only lip balms act as a good primer for your lipsticks but it also help to maintain the moisture throughout the day.
I get chapped and dry lips easily during or at the end of the day so I always have Pro Kiss'R Luscious Lip Balm in my make-up pouch. It comes with an applicator and glides easily on your lips. You know how some lip balms cause the dry skin on your lips to be visible even after applying it numerous time and the only way to get rid of the dry skin is to literally pull/tear it off? Yeap, this lip balm does the total opposite! After applying, my lips will be instantly moisturised and it looks smooth and luscious. One downside of the product? Longevity. I definitely had to touch-up/re-apply quite a few times, especially after eating/drinking. So I think this is most suitable for your night skincare routine, just before bedtime.
Top ingredient:
Shea & mango seed butter - soothes, nourishes and hydrates the lips
This lip balm comes in 4 sheer colours, HINT HINT(Universal Invisipink Sheen), PINCH ME(Sheer Pink), LATTE LIPS(Sheer Neutral Pink), and COCOA DRIZZLE(Sheer Chocolate). The smell will remind you of vanilla & peach; one of the reasons why I love this product!
I bought PINCH ME at S$28 in 12ml.
That is all for me today! I hope you had a great time reading it and that it was helpful in some way. I am still learning and trying to understand my own skin problems so it will always be a trial and error every time I purchase/review a skincare product.
Let me know in the comment section below if you wish to share anything about this post or what you think about the products I've mentioned.
Till the next one Skindeepies(Yes, I'm still sticking to this)!
